The Cannes Film Festival wanted to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the famous Big Blue with the screening of Luc Besson's feature film at the Cinéma de la Plage.

This is the story of two freedivers, Jacques Mayol and Enzo Molinari. Their adventure begins in the Greek islands in the 1950s. As kids, the two divers were already competing for all the deep-sea records. Twenty years later, they found themselves competing in the same championship. The Big Blue will make its comeback to cinema on the beach in Cannes:

Released in 1988, The Big Blue was directed by Luc Besson who wanted to honor 3 great talents, Rosanna Arquette, Jean-Marc Barr and Jean Reno. Son of divers, the director has been immersed in this very unique environment since his childhood and therefore wanted to surround himself with brilliant actors to direct this incredible film.

Both critics and spectators welcomed the film with great enthusiasm. In fact, The Big Blue recorded nearly 9,196,550 admissions during its theatrical run and won the 1989 César for The Best Score for Eric Serra. The Big Blue returned to the big screen on the beach in Cannes to the great enjoyment of the audience.
